Tech to Market Manager

The Tech to Market Manager will provide hands-on support to Joules’ cohorts of startups and its broader utility network as startups progress towards commercialization. This person develops pilot pipelines and voucher opportunities, identifies commercialization pathways for cohort startups, coordinates demonstration projects with utility and industry partners, and drives measurable adoption outcomes through the ARL-to-Scale framework. They will also contribute to technology vetting, go-to-market advisory services, and utility engagement management.

Program Manager — Grid Modernization Engine in the Carolinas

The Grid Modernization Engine in the Carolinas is an NSF funded initiative advancing grid technology innovations in transmission, distribution, and generation from research toward commercial deployment. At its center is the Strategic Investment Committee (SIC) — the operational engine for the program's technology funding function, which evaluates applications, issues vouchers, and connects startups to a vetted regional vendor network.

Joules Accelerator serves as co-lead for the Translation of Innovation to Practice workflow and is taking the primary role in standing up and operationalizing the SIC alongside SCRA and UNC Charlotte. The first two years are a deliberate discovery and build phase: establishing a repeatable, transparent funding process, seeding a vendor registry, and developing a standardized voucher menu, all in service of the Engine's NSF grant objectives.

The Program Manager is the operational backbone of the Strategic Investment Committe and the day-to-day coordinator across the Engine's key relationships — Joules Accelerator, UNC Charlotte, South Carolina Research Authority, the Strategic Investment Committee, the Engine CEO and Governance Board, and the NSF Engine grant requirements. This person manages the full lifecycle of support for grid-technology startups: from RFP intake and eligibility screening, through SIC review and voucher issuance, to vendor coordination and milestone tracking. They are equal parts process architect, relationship manager, and program operator — building durable systems in Years 1–2 that can scale as the program grows.
